Intelligent Transport Networking: Innovative Network Solutions in Smart Cities

With the implementation of new technologies, the demands on mobility services are increasing. The networking of devices plays a crucial role in this regard. It will improve and sustainably shape the efficiency and safety of transporting goods or people in the long term.
What does transport networking mean?
A central theme of the future is mobility. With increasing population density in cities, it becomes increasingly important to expand a functioning and sustainably oriented logistics system. To achieve this, transport networks are necessary to intelligently connect infrastructure. Through this networking, real-time data can be exchanged by communicating vehicles, smartphones, or other digital devices. Currently, there are some challenges when it comes to planning networks that are meant to relieve logistics while being intelligent and cost-effective. This form of newly networked logistics can be found particularly in so-called Smart Cities, for example in public transportation.
5G Network
Future-proof networks like the 5G mobile network can better implement the goals of a Smart City. Latency can be reduced, and a greater amount of data can be exchanged. The lower the frequency, the further the signal can spread. The higher the frequency, the more data can be transmitted. 5G is a prerequisite for residents of a Smart City to be in constant interaction with new technology and, for example, receive real-time information.
Requirements and Application Examples in Transport Networking
As traffic management becomes increasingly complex, the associated technology must also perform more. There are numerous requirements to consider in order to ensure functionality. First, there is a need to establish real-time network communications with traffic management centers and intermediate networks. A central solution could make communication in public transport efficient, including internet access for passengers, cameras, passenger counting, payment terminals, and digital navigation, signage, and advertising.
Most cities need an update to meet the requirements of tomorrow's public transport. Mobility needs are increasing with future trends such as urbanization. In designing the future public transport, it will therefore be important to make connectivity intelligent, safe, and cost-effective to improve safety and the passenger experience. In the future, it is conceivable that this transport networking will be standard in every Smart City and will offer many passengers environmentally friendly mobility through vehicle networking.
